Presenter's biography

Doris Schmack, who holds a doctorate in chemistry, co-founded Schmack Biogas GmbH in 1995. As head of the research and development department for many years, she focused on innovative research approaches in various areas of the energy transition. In 2017, she was one of the first women to be awarded the Rudolf Diesel Medal in the category "Most Sustainable Innovation Achievement" for her achievements in the field of power-to-gas. Dr Doris Schmack is Senior Manager at microbEnergy GmbH, a Viessmann Group company based in Schwandorf, Bavaria. The company deals with topics related to the energy and heat transition, decarbonisation and sector coupling in the field of biogas and power-to-gas. A particular focus is on the production of synthetic methane through biological methanisation in combination with biogas plants or sewage treatment plants. This BIONĀ® process has been brought to technical maturity and a 2 MW plant is currently under construction in Switzerland.
