Assessing Different Biochars As Additives to Improve The Anaerobic Digestion of Poultry Manure

Short Introductive summary

In this study biochar derived from different substrates and generated at different process temperatures was evaluated as an amendment during the anaerobic digestion of poultry manure. Biochar derived from 4 different source materials, at 2 different process temperatures, were used in biochemical methane potential assays. Effect of different biochar activation procedures and dosages were also evaluated at batch scale. Finally, a long-term continuous study was conducted in a 10L CSTR to evaluate impact of biochar amendment on methane yield, process kinetics, and process stability during anaerobic digestion of poultry manure.
