Sustainable Biomass Mobilization for Decarbonizing Economy: A Case Study in Southern Savonia

Short Introductive summary

A large backlog of young forest management has built in Southern Savonia. Well-managed young forests assure a steady supply of strong sawlogs in the future, but the management process also allows for the harvesting of small wood for use as forest chips, that’s have high demand due the use of peat and fossil fuels is reduced in accordance with the climate goals in Finland. It is critical to increase the frequency and quality of these treatments in the area in order to sustain biodiversity, productivity, and meet the demand for forest chips.
