NewWave: Building a Sustainable & Circular Economy through Innovative, Biobased Manufacturing Lines

Short Introductive summary

In the Horizon Europe funded project NewWave, sustainable raw materials will be introduced in four different manufacturing lines producing engineered wood panels, furan base-chemicals, polyols & polyurethanes, and modified/engineered wood. The overall goal of the project is to replace toxic chemicals and lower the environmental footprint of the products. The raw materials used in the manufacturing lines are derived from the lignin and sugars obtained by the fractionation of pyrolysis oil. One of the intermediate products produced from the sugars are the polyols, which are used in various PUR-applications and as an additive in the manufacturing of wood products. In this contribution the production of the polyols from the sugar fraction will be further elucidated.
