Sustainability of SOFC Integration with Anaerobic Digestion: A Comprehensive Analysis of Dimensioning, Technical, Energy Efficiency

Short Introductive summary

The coupling of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) with anaerobic digesters stands out as an especially promising synergy. SOFCs are renowned for their interesting electrical efficiency, operational flexibility, and adaptability to diverse fuels. Positioned in this context, the objective of this research paper is that of studying and analysing an integrated system anaerobic digester – SOFC. The primary aim of this research is to investigate and optimize this integration, focusing on achieving a sustainable and energy-efficient waste-to-energy solution. The study will delve specifically into: a comprehensive Technical Integration Assessment aimed at plant dimensioning. An ad hoc modeling will be developed for this purpose and an extensive simulation campaign will be conducted to build the energy mapping of the plant.
