Optimal Use of Biomass in a Carbon Circular and Climate Neutral European Energy System

Short Introductive summary

Biomass, due to its low net CO2 emissions upon use, is a versatile resource in the context of energy transition, finding applications in heat, electricity, biofuels, and various materials. Therefore, it is essential to assess the optimal use of biomass and other carbon sources at a systemic level to achieve climate goals at the least cost. This paper aims to give insights into the optimal role of biomass in a future carbon-neutral European energy system.
