Biomass Conversion to Biobased Products

Biorefinery Concepts for the Production Cellulosic Fibres from Agricultural and Seaweed Residues for Sustainable Textiles Manufacturing

Short Introductive summary

To reduce the environmental impact of traditional textile processes, a novel model for the textile industry is developed in the HEREWEAR project based on cellulose fibres derived from bio-based wastes, specifically agricultural and seaweed residues. In the present work, custom processes were developed for the production of cellulose from wheat straw and Ulva spp. seaweed within the multi-product biorefinery concepts that maximise biomass valorisation.
