Bridging the Gap between Policy and Science to Enable the Net Zero Benefits of the Bioeconomy

Short Introductive summary

In this work we will introduce the approach we took to engaging with policy makers during the development of the UK Biomass Strategy. We will reflect on our experiences and consider how the lessons learned during the process can be applied more generally for researchers engaging with policy. We will demonstrate how actively engaging with different stakeholder groups and collating and categorising existing information in line with the needs of these different stakeholders, can bridge the gap between policy makers and researchers. This approach informs the research community about evidence gaps and policy needs, thus enabling them to carry out further research that is valuable for policy and society and shows how scientific evidence can more effectively inform policy design and decision making.
