Short introductive summary: Environmental Performance and Trade-Offs of Biogas Production from Rice Straw

As part of an operating 1000 m3 biogas pilot plant in Laguna, Philippines a lifecycle assessment has been conducted, identifying the environmental performance of the biogas production and compare it to current straw management practices such as in-field burning and incorporation. Focus was given on climate change impact and particulate emissions as these are currently the major challenges linked to rice production and straw management.
