Innovative Cellulose Extraction with Green Solvents and Acetylation from Agave Residue

Short Introductive summary

This study explores the efficient utilization of Agave tequilana Weber var. azul biomass residues by Deep Eutectic Solvents processes (DES), with emphasis on sustainable residue management. Three DES systems were evaluated, with ChCl-LA being the most efficient. The study highlights improved cellulose extraction, successful acetylation and competitive production of water filtration membranes. Demonstrating the versatility of DES, this research not only contributes to sustainable resource valorization, but also addresses the pressing global challenges of clean water and agricultural waste management.
