PYRAGRAF: Decentralized Pyrolytic Conversion of Agriculture, and Forestry Wastes Towards Local Circular Value Chains and Sustainability
Short Introductive summary
PYRAGRAF is a relevant Innovation Action dedicated to enhancing sustainability in agriculture and forestry, targeting the crucial need for efficient biomass waste management. Comprising 1.5% of the European GDP, these sectors grapple with escalating challenges intensified by climate change, such as increased greenhouse gas emissions and a very strong reliance on fossil fuels. PYRAGRAF proposes an innovative solution by integrating concentrated solar energy into a mobile biomass pyrolysis unit, giving a new perspective on biochar and wood vinegar production. Aligned with the need to achieve a reduced carbon footprint, the project adheres to circular economy principles, expanding the applications of bio-oil, pyrolysis gas, wood vinegar, and biochar. This mobile solar-assisted concept represents a significant leap, integrating solar energy into thermochemical processing, and stands as a transformative example of innovation, offering sustainable waste valorization solutions and environmentally conscious practices in agriculture and forestry.
