Valorization of Algal Biomasses by Advanced Hydrothermal Process

Short Introductive summary

The search for alternatives to fossil resources has become a major issue in recent years. Algal biomass, already used for compounds of interest such as pigments, is of particular interest for wet processes such as hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) (150 - 300°C; 5-30 MPa). The key scientific barrier to this process is the large number of compounds produced, requiring costly post-treatment. The approach of this subject is to increase the selectivity of compounds of interest by supplying oxygen in sub-stoichiometry.
