How Biomethane Can Contribute to Transport Decarbonization in the EU: Future Scenarios Comparing Applications and Countries

Short Introductive summary

This work presents an analysis of the potential benefits of using biomethane in different transport segments in EU. Our results aim at supporting the discussion of possible strategies towards a decarbonized future transport system in which direct electrification can be complemented by other available solutions. Focusing on biomethane, we provide an analysis of the specific climate emissions savings that could be expected for the application in different transport segments, to propose an allocation method based on the most effective emission savings. This key indicator could represent an important element to support the comparison of alternative biomethane applications in transport.
