Aligning Biomass Potential Assessments with Farmers’ Willingness to Supply - A Case Study in Southern Sweden Exploring Populus Spp. On Agricultural Land

Short Introductive summary

Although private landholders oversee most of the agricultural land in the EU, research exploring the potential use of this land for cultivating biomass for renewable energy applications often lacks insights from the perspective of the potential producers. This oversight could create discrepancies between projected biomass potentials and farmers’ inclinations to grow new energy crops. This study aimed to target this potential gap by exploring the alignment between existing biomass potential assessments, specifically on short-rotation plantations on agricultural land—conducted without considering the perspectives of farmers—and the actual willingness of farmers to cultivate Populus spp. on such agricultural land.
