A Network Analysis of Technological Innovation in the Advanced Biofuels in the EU

Short Introductive summary

By September 2023 the European Union updated the Renewable Energy Directive II (REDII) covering the period 2021-2030, setting an objective for advanced biofuels (AB) to minimum level of ,5 percent in 2030. Many Member States have adopted minimum biofuel use mandates in order to achieve the REDII goals, and the European Union has made it a priority to support innovation in these sectors by targeting R&D investments. . The purpose of this research is to map the innovation capabilities of the main firms in the sector of AB. For this we rely on network analysis using patents families granted during the period 2000 to 2022 by the main firms operating in the European Union by the main firms operating in the European Union and R&D projects co-funded by the European Union FP7 and Horizon2020.
