Various Metal Tolerance of Acidophilic Aspergillus turcosus for Probable Using in PCBs Bioleaching Process
Short Introductive summary
In the current era, there exists a widespread and rapid progression in the economy, technology, and industry, leading to the generation of vast amounts of abandoned e-waste especially printed circuit boards (PCBs). These pollutants frequently contaminate soil and water, profoundly impacting all forms of life, ecosystems, and food chains. Previous research involved the isolation of fungi from diverse electronic waste disposal sites, resulting in the discovery of three Aspergillus sp. YGS1, YGD1 and YGD2 strains. The isolated fungi can growth at high copper sulfate concentration of 1,000 mM in 9K medium. However, PCBs contain several metal ions, the fungi that probably use in bioleaching process should be tolerant to various metal ions. This research was investigated their growth patterns under varying eight heavy metal compound with concentration of 0.5-15% w/v. The experimental findings revealed that the addition of aluminum oxide and ferric oxide at a concentration of 15% did not affect fungal growth. However, increased concentrations of zinc oxide and zinc sulfate led to a decrease in fungal growth. Similarly, elevated concentrations of Lithium sulfate or Manganese (II) sulfate
