A Novel and Valuable Strategy for Sustainable Energy Production through the Gasification of Pulp and Paper Mill Sludge
Short Introductive summary
The global production of paper and paperboard leads to a significant generation of pulp and paper mill sludge (PPMS). The current disposal methods for this waste involve landfilling and incineration, incurring economic, environmental, and social costs. Therefore, this study aims to explore gasification as a potential valorization method for PPMS, focusing on energy recovery through syngas production, in alignment with circular economy principles. The research specifically has concentrated on the oxy-gasification of PPMS mixed with woody biomass, resulting in a promising syngas composition for energy recovery. The study also examined the gasification side products, such as tar and ash, to evaluate a possible reuse.
