Environmental assessment of bioenergy and biobased systems

Environmental Life Cycle Assessment of a Novel Integrated Biogas-SOFC Combined Heat and Power System

Short Introductive summary

The scope of thia study was to assess the environmental performances of the two SOFC systems demonstrated during the W2W project, the small scale plant operated in Lithuania and the medium scale plant operated in Swiss, and compare them to a CHP plant run with same biomass feedstocks, identified as the main competing technology. Potential alternative sources of electricity, i.e. the current Italian electricity mix, PV, wind and coal, have been also considered as reference scenarios. An LCA analysis has been carried out using GaBi software, and the results have been analyzed following the ISO and EC–ILCD recommendations.
