Hydrodeoxygenation of Lignin Model Compounds Over Ru-Supported Metal Oxides and Mixed Oxides
Short Introductive summary
The main objective of this study is the development of new materials based on Ru-supported metal oxides and mixed oxides and their application on the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reaction of lignin model compounds. Particularly, ß-O-4´ [with 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran] and ß-5´ [1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)propane-1,3-diol] will be used as representatives of lignin structure to understand how the C-C and C-O linkages of these compounds are broken during the catalytic HDO process, thus allowing processing lignin type raw materials to efficiently obtain biofuels and high added-value chemicals. Importantly, the elucidation of reaction mechanisms taking place during HDO process and of the role of active sites in the catalyst will help to design better and more robust Ru-supported catalysts capable to valorize lignin-type feedstocks for sustainable production of maritime fuels and aromatic-type chemicals.
