Pathways to a Green Economy - Searching for Cleaner Energy Sources and Production in Angola
Short Introductive summary
This work aims to evaluate options for a greener and more sustainable use of the biomass to bioenergy. Different scenarios were built. In Scenario 1, it was considered business as usual, and a total of 1.8 PJ could be produced; However, there are a lot of environmental impacts derived from the exploitation of those residues. Large amounts of particulate matter (PM) and CO2 are emitted and it creates hazardous indoor pollution, which causes a wide range of illnesses and diseases such as respiratory, cardiovascular, reproductive, to name a few. In fact, the use of fire-pan or community stove present very low efficiency and risks to humans, and can be highly improved. In Scenario 2 it was considered the improvement of the collection systems, the improvement of the transportation system, and the improvement of the stoves efficiency. Considering Scenario 2, circa 2.27 PJ of energy can be produced and a reduction in CO2, CO and particulate emissions can be achieved. In Scenario 3, it was considered the use of solar-biomass hybrid cookstoves. In this scenario, circa 4.77 PJ can be produce, with increased amount of saved emissions.
