This study highlights the essential role of biomass in achieving the European Green Deal. It examines implicit expectations of biomass in European Green Deal policies. The paper deploys a qualitative grounded theory approach, analysing 25 EU biomass policies in detail, distilling their expectations on biomass.

Develop methodologies for integrated land assessments, integrated biomass assessments (both aquatic and land-based) and methods for assessing the sustainability of the whole bioeconomy, in order to quantify the expectations set out by EU land policies to simultaneously produce biomass.
