A Comprehensive Methodology for Calculating Biomass Residue’s Theoretical, Technical and Economic Potentials. Case-Study of the Minas Gerais State in Brazil
Short Introductive summary
A number of publications have tried to develop and apply methodologies to define and evaluate strategies for the use of biomass and waste, including the geographic and seasonal availability of waste, collection and transportation logistics, the consideration of multiple criteria for comparing alternatives and the selection of technology. Otherwise the the fundamentals of the theoretical potential calculations were not described. Publications that consider agricultural wastes to calculate a georeferenced potential, such as this one, are scarce. The main goal of this paper is to propose a comprehensive methodology for the evaluation of the technical and economical potentials of electricity generation from different types of biomass residues, the MCDM/AHP method, and georeferencing and different thermochemical conversion technologies,. A case study is presented for the State of Minas Gerais in Brazil.
