Generation of a Biomass-Based Electrofuel for the Farming Sector: Techno-Economic Analysis of Different Pathways for the Conversion of Biogas into Dimethyl Ether

Short Introductive summary

The main goal of the present work is to analyze different pathways for DME production from biomass. Several options are considered for syngas generation from biogas (steam reforming, autothermal reforming, partial oxidation and dry reforming) and for setting the right syngas quality for the subsequent synthesis step (membrane for CO2 removal and H2 addition from water electrolysis). The processes were modelled with the software Aspen Plus v14.0, which includes the biogas conversion into syngas, the preconditioning of the gaseous stream, its conversion into methanol (MeOH) and the subsequent production of DME.
