Yields and Costs of Mechanized Harvesting with a Harvester-Mulcher Operating in a Rockrose (Cistus Laurifolius L.) Shrubland

Short Introductive summary

The aim of CBE4i project “Clean bioenergy for industry”, i to develope a novel, fuel-flexible biomass updraft gasification based technology for a highly energy efficient, almost zero emission and zero waste process heat supply, for flexible implementation at industrial settings, satisfying the specific demands of industry. Gasification tests are planned to be carried out with low-cost biomasses from southern Europe, including rockrose. The aim of the research is to evaluate the performance of the harvester-mulcher system (López-Garrido TBA 2300) for collecting rockrose (Cistus laurifolius L.) shrublands biomass. The results obtained (biomass production, yields and operating costs) can be extended to other rockrose areas in the central-northern Iberian Peninsula. This equipment provides better results than other tested systems for clearing and collecting rockrose (6.9 tDM/ha (12.9 tWM/ha; 31.3% collection efficiency; 2.8 tWM/PMH and 0.22 ha/PMH productivity. The total net costs were estimated at 104.77 €/PMH and 36.97€/tDM.
