Possibility of Biomass as Alternative Carbon Source for FINEX Coal briquettes
Short Introductive summary
A lot of research and development is being conducted to reduce carbon in the steel sector worldwide. Among them, biomass is a carbon-neutral energy source regulated by IPCC and is being developed as a technology to replace coal. However, due to the low energy density and heterogeneous quality of biomass, the efficiency compared to existing coal is lowered, limiting its use. This study aims to increase utilization in the steel field by increasing the energy density of biomass and homogenizing the quality through a thermochemical pretreatment process. In particular, in the case of Coal Briquette, which is used in POSCO's FINEX process, the possibility of utilizing biomass is very high due to the nature of the process using coal containing a significant amount of volatile matter.
