Waste-to-Energy and Municipal Solid Waste Management Systems in Circular Economy - Selected Results from the CircWtE Project

Short Introductive summary

The main objective of the CircWtE project is to determine how future MSW management systems will look like in the CE and what impact CE will have on MSW-based energy production. The project conducted with focuses on: 1)Mapping today's situation in the Norwegian waste treatment system, 2)Crafting what-if scenarios for 2020-2035 including waste generation, new technologies, behavioral changes, etc.3)Implement scenarios using projections, Input/Output analysis & LCA.4) Discuss/assess the resulting insights, challenges, opportunities, needs, and knowledge gaps to support the sector play its part in in CE. By assessing current and future MSW treatment systems using a variety of tools, CircWtE provides results and insights that will support the sector when transitioning towards a Circular Economy.
