Technical and Economic Investigation of Energy Utilization of Forest Biomass Residues: The Case of the Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli Forest National Park

Short Introductive summary

The main objective of the article is to contribute to the composition of a methodological framework for the economic and technical analysis of the energy utilization of woody biomass residues that can result from the proper forest management. More specifically, among others, this work: a) develops and presents a methodological framework for the estimation of the potential of forest residues, b) contributes to the definition of appropriate procedures for the collection, management and exploitation of forest residues, examined both from a technical and economic point of view and c) estimates the final cost of biomass feedstock of alternative scenarios of woody forest residues value chains. To evaluate the feasibility and benefits of this approach, the Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli Forest National Park, in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace of Greece, was examined as a case study.
