Short Introductive summary

The use of biochar in biogas processes is frequently investigated in recent studies. For enhancing the performance of biochar it is possible to combine it with iron(III)-hydroxide. For better physical properties and handling it is necessary to combine these two components into a homogeneous product. With the addition of a binder it is possible to agglomerate these two components to pellets or granulates which show good mechanical properties, but with drastic reduction of the BET-surface. A crucial step is the conditioning before the composite pelleting, because of the contradictory properties of biochar and iron(III)-hydroxide, but the type of binder has a lower relevance. For composite granulation less binder is required and the contradictory properties of the raw materials are not as critical. Furthermore, a bigger BET-surface is achieved when granulating, which can result in better application performances.
