Effects of Acid Doping on Biomass Ash Composition During Washing Pre-Treatment With Aqueous Fraction from Wood Htc

Short Introductive summary

The current study is aimed at investigating the feasibility of doping the HTC aqueous fraction with varying ratios of organic acids to enhance the ash removal efficiency when this fraction is used as a washing agent for biomass washing pretreatment. The ash content of the washed biomass and the composition of main ash-forming elements in both the washed biomass and the used washing agent will be evaluated to ascertain the feasibility. The novelty of this study lies in developing a potential valorisation route for a fraction often regarded as waste, while simultaneously reducing the use of a scare resource and potentially minimising operational costs.

Presenter's biography

Lusani is currently pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria, where he also lectures. His research focuses on renewable energy, particularly biomass-to-energy conversion, with a strong emphasis on producing high-quality hydrogen from biomass to advance sustainability.
