Enhancement of Hydrochar from Empty Fruit Bunches (EFBs) Produced by CO2- Hydrothermal Carbonization

Short Introductive summary

This study investigates the enhancement of hydrochar produced from palm empty fruit bunches (EFBs) through CO2-assisted hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). Carbonated water was used as the reaction medium, and CO2 gas was purged to promote carbon fixation during the process. The results demonstrated higher carbon retention and energy density compared to conventional N2-assisted HTC. These findings suggest that CO2-assisted HTC can serve as an effective carbon fixation and bioenergy conversion pathway contributing to carbon capture and storage (CCS) goals.
