Power-to-X for Aviation: Scaling Sustainable Fuel Deployment and Market Integration in Asia-Pacific

Short Introductive summary

Aviation decarbonisation in the Asia–Pacific (APAC) region requires large-scale deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) beyond conventional bio-based pathways. This study presents the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials’ (RSB) roadmap for Power-to-Liquid (PtL) and hybrid Power-and-Biomass-to-Liquids (PBtL) fuels, assessing resource potential, policy readiness, certification alignment, and market integration across 11 APAC economies. Results highlight strong renewable and CO2 resources but major constraints in electricity, policy coherence, and financing. The roadmap identifies regional roles—resource anchors, technology hubs, and trading centres—and proposes five priorities: strengthen governance, align certification, develop PtX corridors, advance technology transfer, and mobilise finance. These actions form a practical framework to scale PtX fuels and position Asia–Pacific as a key contributor to global SAF markets.
