Insights from a New Potential Obtainable Products from the End-Cycle of an Industrial Agroforestry-Plantation of MRF Poplar and Fiber-Sorghum
Short Introductive summary
The production of biomass from renewable sources in agriculture has gained significant attention, particularly during the 1990s and early 2000s, as a response to the increasing need to replace fossil fuels. This led to the widespread establishment of short-rotation plantations using fast-growing coppice species, managed over 2–5 year cycles. Despite their productivity, these systems faced market challenges, resulting in a decline in adoption due to lower profitability compared to traditional crops. Current global and European directives emphasize the importance of preserving and expanding food crop areas to meet the demands of a growing population. This context opens opportunities for cultivating non-food crops on marginal lands, where traditional crops struggle.
