Improved Biohydrogen Production and Metabolomic Shifts in Micractinium sp. KLSc62 Under Ethanol Supplementation
Short Introductive summary
Hydrogen is increasingly viewed as a clean and sustainable energy source, and microalgae have emerged as a promising biological platform for its production. This study highlights the potential of green microalgae to generate biohydrogen, particularly when ethanol is used as an external electron donor. Through screening thirteen algal strains, Micractinium sp. KLSc62 demonstrated the highest hydrogen production under ethanol supplementation. Ethanol metabolism was also linked to changes in cellular biochemistry, including the formation of acetaldehyde intermediates and shifts in metabolite profiles. Overall, the findings suggest that ethanol-induced hydrogen production in Micractinium sp. KLSc62 may support future development of scalable, algae-based clean energy systems and biochemical production technologies.

Presenter's biography
He received his Ph.D. from CU, Thailand, in 2012 and began his academic career at KMITL, Thailand, in 2013. His research specializes in algal biotechnology and bioactive compounds, employing multidisciplinary approaches to develop microalgae-based bioproducts and metabolic engineering strategies.
