Process Design for the Recovery of Valuable Organic Compounds from Pyrolysis Oil Aqueous Phase
Short Introductive summary
Valorising by-products is crucial to increase the economic and environmental sustainability of pyrolysis oil production and upgrading. This abstract deals with process design, modelling, and optimisation for organics recovery via distillation from aqueous phase produced in the pyrolysis oil stabilisation process. The separation consists of four distillation columns in series and allows reaching high recovery rates of both methanol and ethanol. The process is modelled using a re-parametrised Vapour-Liquid equilibrium model, which significantly improves the accuracy of current models available in COCO-COFE and Aspen Plus process simulators.
