Monitoring and Assessment of Dry Matter Loss and Gas Emissions During Woody Biomass Storage: A Systematic Review

Short Introductive summary

Storage of biomass acts as an important stage in the bioenergy supply chain, and efficient management is necessary during the storage phase to deliver high-quality biofuels to meet energy plants’ demands. Degradation processes may result in dry matter losses (DML), and gaseous emissions during storage, leading to environmental impacts and health issues. Hence, enhancing strategies during storage to promote sustainability is of great importance. The current literature lacks a comprehensive and systematic analysis of monitoring losses during the storage of wood-based biomass. To fill the research gap, a systematic literature review (SLR) synthesizes the existing literature on factors influencing losses and gas emissions, as well as methods used for their measurement and monitoring. The selected studies are analysed rigorously and meticulously to extract information and gain new insights.
