Short Introductive summary

The present study aimed to determine the impact of the integrated use of microwave radiation and selected aqueous solutions of deep eutectic solvents (DES) on changes in lignocellulose composition and structure, their influence on the efficiency of enzymatic hydrolysis and celulosic ethanol biosynthesis. Pretreatment of oat hulls with an aqueous solution of choline chloride and ethylene glycol resulted in biomass highly susceptible to enzymatic degradation. This resulted in fermentation media with a glucose content of 116.8 g/l. The obtained hydrolysates constituted complementary fermentation media for S. cerevisiae yeast, enabling full fermentation within 48 hours and obtaining an ethanol concentration of 54 g/l. The research clearly indicates the possibility of using the developed pretreatment method in the industrial production of cellulosic ethanol, as it guarantees obtaining highly concentrated lignocellulosic hydrolysates that constitute convenient carbon sources for various groups of microorganisms.
