Accelerated Approach to Study Biodegradability of Plastics Produced from Agricultural Biomass

Short Introductive summary

This study introduces an accelerated biodegradability evaluation approach for plastics incorporating polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) biopolymers derived from agricultural biomass. Building upon the Bartha and Pramer respirometric methodology and the biostimulation-based strategy proposed by Schana Andréia da?Silva , the work focuses on enhancing microbial activity under thermophilic conditions to reduce testing time. The proposed method effectively links biomass-derived feedstock characterization with end-of-life performance assessment, enabling rapid differentiation between biodegradable and non-biodegradable plastics. This approach offers a practical and cost-efficient framework for supporting sustainable material development within the circular bioeconomy context.
