Effects Of Hydrothermal Pre-Treatment on the Performance of a Pilot Scale Biorefinery for Renewable Methane and Value Adding By-Products

Short Introductive summary

At EUBCE 2024 in Marseille, we introduced our pilot-scale biorefinery to the scientific community. We presented data from the commissioning phase as well as the first scale-up approaches within a digital twin, using preliminary lab-scale results combined with economic and ecological evaluations. At EUBCE 2025 in Valencia, we shared data demonstrating consistent production and seamless interaction between the various processes within the pilot plant. In 2026, we aim to focus on the effects within the pilot plant when the input material is pre-treated. Specifically, we will examine the impact on key output parameters (e.g., production rate, biogas composition) as well as subtle deviations in other areas of the biorefinery (e.g., the power consumption of processing equipment such as pumps).
