Techno-Economic assessment of Net-Zero Methanol in the U.S.

Methanol is a versatile platform chemical and energy carrier, serving both as a clean fuel and an industrial feedstock. Achieving net-zero methanol requires integrating renewable energy, carbon capture, and sustainable biomass or carbon sources. This study conducts a techno-economic assessment of U.S. production facilities to identify feasible pathways for net-zero methanol within the energy transition. Accounting for regional variations in feedstock and power resources, it estimates the Levelized Cost of Methanol (LCOM) across multiple routes and energy inputs, highlighting the key cost drivers and constraints that determine regional competitiveness.
