On the Use of High-blend Ethanol Fuel in Small Off-Road Vehicles Engines: Part I

Short Introductive summary

The reduction in emissions produced by a small IC engine is discussed. These engines are used in the design of small off-road vehicles, such as lawn mowers, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), etc. Harmful exhaust emissions reductions are investigated when changing from commonly used gasoline to a high-blend ethanol. To better model real world conditions, a small off-road vehicle is tested using a vehicle dynamometer. Only minor changes were made to the carburetor. Emissions, cost and performance changes are investigated and reported.

Dr. Gregory W. Davis is a Professor ofMechanical Engineering at Kettering University,formerly known as GMI Engineering &Management Institute. Acting in this capacity, he teaches courses in the Automotive and Thermal Science disciplines. He also serves a Director of the Advanced Engine Research Lab.
