Optimization for Polyhydroxyalkanoate Production from Various Carbon Sources and C:N Ratios by Bacillus sp. under Nitrogen Limitation

Short Introductive summary

This study, carried out under the EUREKA Spain–Turkey Project 9220017, presents an optimized bioprocess for high-yield P3HB production using a Bacillus sp. strain isolated from refinery wastewater activated sludge. Under optimal conditions, the strain achieved 82.9% intracellular PHA content, positioning it among the highest reported yields for non-engineered Bacillus strains grown on simple sugar substrates. These results highlight the strong industrial potential of this native strain for sustainable and scalable bioplastic production.

I am an Application Development Assistant Specialist at SOCAR R&D and a Ph.D. candidate at Ege University. My research focuses on environmental biotechnology, microbial processes, wastewater treatment, and polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production from olive mill wastewater.
