Assessing integrated biorefineries concepts
Modelling Waste Biorefineries to Valorize Fish Industry by-products: the VALORISH Project Case
Short Introductive summary
In this work, a process modeling approach is presented to simulate an innovative, integrated biorefinery designed to valorize industrial fish by-products, as underutilized but high-value biomass, for the production of bioproducts targeting food applications. To support this, a dedicated modeling framework was developed incorporating mathematical models to represent core units of the biorefinery, including bioreactors and downstream processing. These models were then integrated into a unified platform that enables the biorefinery comprehensive performance evaluation and supports assessment of its techno-economic viability, environmental impact, and scalability. The selected Topic 3.2 and corresponding subtopic are fully aligned with the objectives of this work, contributing reliable insights into current scientific advances in sustainable bioprocessing.
