Improving Waste Management and Upcycling of Bioplastics in the Packaging, Textile and Agriculture Sectors

Short Introductive summary

Within the MoeBIOS project, ITENE focuses on the packaging value chain, developing and optimizing advanced recycling technologies to recover high-quality secondary materials from bioplastic waste streams. Representative post-consumer materials are mapped, contaminants identified, and best practices established for each biopolymer and recycling route. It has been applied mechanical, chemical, enzymatic, and thermochemical recycling approaches, performing preliminary trials to assess material suitability, process efficiency and potential upcycling pathways. Pilot-scale validation is carried out jointly with waste management operators and packaging manufacturers, integrating ITENE’s conditioning and recycling protocols under realistic industrial conditions.
