Enhanced Carbon-To-X-Output Technology - Advanced Staged Gasification Technology of Biogenic Residues for Hydrogen-rich Syngas Production
Short Introductive summary
Technologies for renewable hydrogen and syngas production play a key role at the global energy transition, especially gasification technologies for syngas production. The newly by Fraunhofer UMSICHT developed and patented Enhanced Carbon-To-X-Output (EXO) process enables the production of hydrogen-rich syngas gas from ash-rich biogenic residues and waste materials with low ash melting temperatures. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the production of hydrogen-rich syngas from biogenic residues and waste materials. The Enhanced Carbon-To-X-Output process enables effective conversion of biogenic residues and offers a good opportunity to produce sustainable syngas and CO2-neutral hydrogen. The results demonstrate the successful conversion of ash-rich biogenic residues into hydrogen-rich syngas. The conversion of sewage sludge resulted in a gas yield of 11.39 m3/h and a hydrogen yield of 397.4 gH2/h. The conversion of sieve overflow produced a gas yield of 16.10 m3/h and a hydrogen yield of 523 gH2/h. Both product gases exhibited a high hydrogen content of 38.2 vol.-% for the conversion of sewage sludge and 36.7 vol.-% for the conversion of sieve overflow from biowaste.
