Advancing sustainable bioprocesses: life cycle and techno-economic perspectives
Ways Towards A Prospective Life Cycle Assessment of Industrial Biotechnology Processes - Emerging Technology Modelling Progress Exemplary from Methyl Ketone to Biosurfactant Production
Short Introductive summary
From an LCA practitioner perspective, the presented work shall provide an overview on the topic of prospective LCA for different emerging industrial biotechnologies. The two examples of methyl ketone and biosurfactant production highlight differences in the assessment process (simplified pLCA approach and improved more precise pLCA approach) and clarify some possible consequences arising from practitioner decisions. The presentation of options for prospective LCA modelling issues (e.g., data uncertainties) and supporting implementation measures (e.g., data quality assessment) to increase the robustness of the results complete the contribution.
