Integrated agricultural management practices - A contribution to sustainability
Crop Rotatation as Agricultural Practice in a Sustainable Value Chain Generating Biogas and Biofertilizer
Short Introductive summary
Nowadays, crop rotation is a hot topic due to the many agronomic, ecological and economic benefits it offers. Among these benefits, we can highlight: improved soil health, efficient use of water and better control of pests and diseases. Corn is a common traditional crop from Spain and other countries from South location. Concretely, in a Southwest region from Spain the monocrop of corn is leading to poor soils with low organic matter and nutrients content. In this case, rotation crops is an excellent practice to apply. Industrial hemp cultivation is being introduced into crop rotations due to its mainly positive impacts. These impacts include greater competition against weeds and a reduction in the number of fungi and nematode species in the soil. An important aspect to consider, hemp cultivation is proving to have multiple uses in the textile, construction and energy industries as a source of ecological raw material and a substitute for the fossil-based raw materials currently in use. The processing of raw material obtained from hemp generates waste, hemp dust. A sustainable resource to eliminate this waste is anaerobic co-digestion with animal manure. In this way, the decarbon
