Biofuels and GHG implications
Biomass-based Fuel Pathways in CLEVER - Methodological Choices and Impacts
Short Introductive summary
The CLEVER project aims at creating a GHG accounting framework for the purpose of calculation of energy- and fuel related emission factors in transport and logistics. Regulatroy background is the EU’s CountEmissionsEU legislative initiative. The framework covers all relevant fuel types with an emphasize on fuel / energy provision. Biofuels play an important role, since they constitute a substantial part of renewable energy in the transport sector. However, they also pose uniqe methodological challenges, which have to be addressed. This paper / presentation focuses on the CLEVER approach to assessing biofuels and compares key methodological aspects with other relevant frameworks / standards such as RED or ICAOs CORSIA.
