Pilot Scale Fluidized Bed Methanation of Gasification Derived Producer Gas with Flexible Hydrogen Addition

Short Introductive summary

The conversion of low-grade biomass into bio-SNG (Synthetic Natural Gas) via gasification and downstream methanation of the gasification derived producer gas is a promising way to produce a versatile energy carrier from a biogenic waste stream. Additionally, the process offers the option to integrate in a flexible manner renewable hydrogen produced from PV or Wind electricity that otherwise cannot be used. Within the European Union project HyFuelUp, a TRL 7 pilot plant is erected in Tondela Portugal comprising a circulating fluidized bed gasifier, gas cleaning, a fluidised bed methanation reactor, flexible H2 addition and gas upgrading to obtain renewable methane according to the specifications. Here, we report performance data of a pilot scale methanation reactor (200 kW) investigating the conversion of different gasifier types. (CFB, DFB, SEG) with and without hydrogen addition.
