Resource efficient biomass use assessment approaches
BINTER: A Digital Platform for the Mobilisation and Valorisation of Biomass Resources
Short Introductive summary
Europe produces over 59 million tonnes of food waste annually, with about 30% being nutrient-rich Food Processing Residues (FPRs). At the same time, millions of tonnes of agricultural residues remain unused, representing a major opportunity for renewable energy generation and nutrient recovery. The Biomass INTERmediates (BINTER) app, developed by CPERI/CERTH with Comitech S.A., is a digital platform connecting farmers, transporters, and bio-based industries to optimise biomass supply chains. It supports energy production from agricultural residues and the conversion of FPRs into soil improvers and biofertilisers. Freely available on Google Play, BINTER enhances resource efficiency and promotes a circular bioeconomy. Future updates will expand its European user base and include a CO2 calculation tool to quantify emission reductions.
