Biomass and waste combustion as sustainable strategy for decarbonization
Air/steam Gasification of Residual Biomass in a 20 kWt Bubbling Fluidized Bed Reactor: Process Conditions and Gas Composition.
Short Introductive summary
In this work it is described a prototype scale gasification facility composed of a bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) reactor (20 kWth) and ancillary equipment, namely the superheated steam generation setup and the reactor for combustion of producer gas. The BFB reactor has an internal diameter of 0,150 m and a total height of 2,2 m. The BFB reactor is integrated with an electrical furnace of 21 KWe, to support also the allothermal regime of operation with steam gasification. This installation was conceived to support the evaluation of the influence of scale-up from bench-scale to pre-pilot scale (20 kWth) on the process performance parameters and gas quality. The main operating conditions of the gasification experimental facility are presented in this work, and its operation with residual biomass and its mixture with plastics. Experiments were performed at bed temperatures of 780 and 820°C under atmospheric pressure, and equivalence ratio in range 0.22 to 0.26. The biomass feed rate, and its mixtures with plastics, was up to 6 kg/h, and air or air/steam flow rate up to 100 LSPT/min. The average composition of the dry gas and process performance parameters was determined.
